In value terms, carbon dioxide exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Nigeria (X tons) was the key exporter of carbon dioxide, comprising X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Senegal (X tons), together mixing up a X% share of total exports. Burkina Faso (X tons) and Benin (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Nigeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the carbon dioxide exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Benin (X%), Burkina Faso (X%), Senegal (X%) and Cote d'Ivoire (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Nigeria, Senegal, Benin and Burkina Faso increased by X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Senegal ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total exports. Benin and Burkina Faso lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Benin, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Western Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Western Africa
In 2022, the amount of carbon dioxide imported in Western Africa rose significantly to X tons, increasing by X% on the previous year. In general, imports recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, carbon dioxide imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of carbon dioxide, namely Senegal, Guinea and Ghana, represented more than half of total import. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Cabo Verde (X%). Mauritania (X tons) and Togo (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mauritania ($X per ton), while Guinea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
