Exports peaked in 2020 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, pasta and couscous exports skyrocketed to $X in 2020. In general, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Exports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Cambodia (X tonnes) was the main destination for pasta and couscous exports from Viet Nam, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, pasta and couscous exports to Cambodia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the U.S. (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Poland (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Cambodia amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the U.S. (+X% per year) and Poland (+X% per year).

In value terms, Cambodia ($X), the U.S. ($X) and Australia ($X) were the largest markets for pasta and couscous exported from Viet Nam worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Japan, Poland, the UK, Germany, China, France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further X Netherlands saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average pasta and couscous export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated noticeable growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, pasta and couscous export price increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Vietnam

Pasta and couscous imports into Viet Nam soared to X tonnes in 2020, with an increase of X% against the year before. In general, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pasta and couscous imports expanded markedly to $X in 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, South Korea (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of pasta and couscous to Viet Nam, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, pasta and couscous imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Japan (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Korea amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+X% per year) and Japan (+X% per year).

Over the last thirteen-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.
