Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, packaging materials exports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

China (X tons) was the main destination for packaging materials exports from Vietnam, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, packaging materials exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Malaysia (X tons), with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-X% per year) and Malaysia (+X% per year).

In 2021, the average packaging materials export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, purchases abroad of packaging materials increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -X% against 2018 indices.
