In value terms, optical fiber cables exports soared to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Exports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Mozambique (X tonnes), Peru (X tonnes) and the Philippines (X tonnes) were the main destinations of optical fiber cables exports from Viet Nam, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the U.S., Thailand, Ecuador, South Korea, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Austria and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Austria (+X% per year), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for optical fiber cables exports from Viet Nam, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Thailand ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the U.S. stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+X% per year) and South Korea (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average optical fiber cables export price amounted to $X per tonne, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2020 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Ecuador ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Myanmar, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of optical fiber cables, when their volume increased by X% to X tonnes. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, optical fiber cables imports surged to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, China (X tonnes) constituted the largest optical fiber cables supplier to Viet Nam, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber cables imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tonnes), sevenfold. Malaysia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+X% per year) and Malaysia (+X% per year).

The average optical fiber cables import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, optical fiber cables import price increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
