Exports in Southern Asia
In 2021, shipments abroad of molybdenum decreased by -X% to X kg for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X kg in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, molybdenum exports rose to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per tonne in 2021, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per tonne in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for India.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to +X% per year.
Molybdenum Imports
Imports in Southern Asia
After five years of growth, overseas purchases of molybdenum decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tonnes in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, molybdenum imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
India dominates imports structure, accounting for X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2021. Pakistan (X tonnes) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into India increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Pakistan (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. While the share of Pakistan (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported molybdenum in Southern Asia, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Pakistan ($X), with a X% share of total imports.
In India, molybdenum imports increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012-2021.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per tonne in 2021, increasing by X% against the previous year. Import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was India ($X per tonne), while Pakistan totaled $X per tonne.
