In 2022, Malawi (X tons) was the major exporter of tea, generating X% of total exports. Tanzania (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Zimbabwe (X tons) and South Africa (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total exports. Mozambique (X tons) and Lesotho (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to tea exports from Malawi stood at X%. In value terms, tea imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Mozambique (X tons) and Botswana (X tons), together mixing up a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Zambia (X tons), Namibia (X tons), Angola (X tons), Swaziland (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.

Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mauritius (X%), Zambia (X%) and Swaziland (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Botswana (X%), Angola (X%), Mozambique (X%) and Namibia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
