The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 85%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

South Africa prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mauritius (X tons), creating a 5.7% share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -2.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mauritius (+60.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +60.8% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mauritius increased by +5.7 percentage points.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest radio navigation apparatus supplier in SADC, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mauritius ($X), with a 4.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at -4.4%.

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Mauritius stood at $X per ton.

In 2021, purchases abroad of radio navigational aid apparatus increased by 32% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 80%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, radio navigation apparatus imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Angola (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) represented roughly 49% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Botswana (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons), together committing a 40% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of +34.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Angola ($X), Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) and Mozambique ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 10% share of total imports.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of +24.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 37% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a notable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 171% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Botswana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Angola (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
