The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 292%. The exports peaked at X square meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sheep leather exports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a precipitous descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 279%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Kazakhstan (X square meters) was the main destination for sheep leather exports from Russia, accounting for a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by India (X square meters), with a 1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Kazakhstan was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (-38.3% per year) and Belarus (-17.7% per year).
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for sheep leather exports from Russia, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Kazakhstan was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (-39.7% per year) and Belarus (-38.3% per year).

In 2021, the average sheep leather export price amounted to $X per square meter, waning by -95.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 105% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sheep leather imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a dramatic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 419%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Belarus (X square meters) was the main sheep leather supplier to Russia, accounting for a 94% share of total imports. Moreover, sheep leather imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Armenia (X square meters), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belarus totaled +22.9%.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sheep leather to Russia, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Armenia ($X), with a 5.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Belarus totaled +23.2%.
Import Prices by Country
The average sheep leather import price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, picking up by 6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 71% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per square meter), while the price for Armenia amounted to $X per square meter.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+33.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
