In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the South Korean drawing chalk market, when its value decreased by -15.9% to $X. In general, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Drawing chalk consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, drawing chalk exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The United States (X units), China (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main destinations of drawing chalk exports from South Korea, together comprising 45% of total exports. France, Tanzania, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, Japan, Canada, Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +34.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, drawing chalk imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 20%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
