In value terms, ghee exports contracted markedly to $X in 2020. In general, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Angola (X tonnes), Macao SAR (X tonnes) and Cabo Verde (X tonnes) were the main destinations of ghee exports from Portugal, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Macao SAR, while exports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest markets for ghee exported from Portugal were Angola ($X), Cabo Verde ($X) and Macao SAR ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Macao SAR saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average ghee export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a modest expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Angola ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cabo Verde, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2020, approx. X tonnes of ghee were imported into Portugal; surging by X% compared with 2019 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

Belgium, Germany and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Germany, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
