For the third consecutive year, the Polish preserved sweet corn market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved sweet corn exports fell notably to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tonnes), Romania (X tonnes) and the UK (X tonnes) were the main destinations of preserved sweet corn exports from Poland, with a combined X% share of total exports. Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, Latvia, Denmark, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, Moldova and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Russia (+X% per year), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and Ukraine ($X) constituted the largest markets for preserved sweet corn exported from Poland worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, Denmark, Lithuania, Belarus, Latvia, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, Moldova and Hungary, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Russia (+X% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average preserved sweet corn export price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Poland

In 2020, overseas purchases of sweet corn prepared or preserved decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved sweet corn imports reduced modestly to $X in 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2020, Hungary (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of preserved sweet corn to Poland, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved sweet corn imports from Hungary exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tonnes), sevenfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Hungary was relatively modest.
