In 2021, banana and plantain exports from Poland contracted notably to X tonnes, declining by -X% against 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2020, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, banana and plantain exports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

The Czech Republic (X tonnes), Romania (X tonnes) and Slovakia (X tonnes) were the main destinations of banana and plantain exports from Poland, together accounting for X% of total exports. Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Latvia (+X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the highest prices were recorded for prices to Germany ($X per tonne) and Hungary ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per tonne) and Lithuania ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (-X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Poland

In 2021, imports of bananas and plantains into Poland contracted to X tonnes, declining by -X% compared with 2020. In general, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase.
