In 2021, overseas shipments of citrus fruit jams, marmalades, jellies, purees or pastes were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 1,090% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, citrus fruit preserves exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 877%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) was the main destination for citrus fruit preserves exports from the Netherlands, accounting for a 34% share of total exports. Moreover, citrus fruit preserves exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+7.8% per year) and the United States (+141.4% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and the United States ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for citrus fruit preserves exported from the Netherlands worldwide, with a combined 65% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Ghana, Spain, Iceland, Nigeria, the UK, Egypt, Seychelles, France and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 23%.
Among the main countries of destination, Iceland, with a CAGR of +179.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average citrus fruit preserves export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands
In 2021, the amount of citrus fruit jams, marmalades, jellies, purees or pastes imported into the Netherlands amounted to X tons, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 509%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, citrus fruit preserves imports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 178% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The UK (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of citrus fruit preserves imports to the Netherlands, together comprising 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Italy, Ireland and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Ireland (with a CAGR of +79.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the UK ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest citrus fruit preserves suppliers to the Netherlands, together accounting for 68% of total imports. Italy, Belgium, Ireland and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
Ireland, with a CAGR of +80.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average citrus fruit preserves import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, citrus fruit preserves import price increased by +30.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 78% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
