For the fifth year in a row, MENA recorded growth in overseas shipments of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood, which increased by 23% to X units in 2021. In general, exports recorded prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, wooden door exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +10.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 100%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 84% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X units), mixing up a 7.5% share of total exports. The following exporters - the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Egypt (X units) - each recorded a 4% share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+40.9%) and Egypt (+9.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +40.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+15 p.p.) and Morocco (+6.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -11.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest wooden door supplier in MENA, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +6.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+40.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-3.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 6.8%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wooden door imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Iraq (X units), distantly followed by Libya (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Israel (X units), Algeria (X units), Kuwait (X units) and Oman (X units) represented the major importers of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood, together committing 78% of total imports. Egypt (X units), Morocco (X units), Qatar (X units), Tunisia (X units), Turkey (X units) and Jordan (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Qatar (with a CAGR of +26.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Iraq ($X), Qatar ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 39% share of total imports. Israel, Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Tunisia, Jordan and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

Kuwait, with a CAGR of +14.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, surging by 2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 7.3%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
