From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Qatar ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2023, with a combined X% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, Iran, Kuwait and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, caustic soda imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2023. In general, imports, however, showed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Turkey dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Israel (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons), together constituting a X% share of total imports. Morocco (X tons), Djibouti (X tons), Algeria (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of caustic soda. At the same time, Djibouti (X%), Saudi Arabia (X%), Egypt (X%), Israel (X%) and Algeria (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Djibouti emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Tunisia (X%), Morocco (X%) and the United Arab Emirates (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (X p.p.), Israel (X p.p.), Turkey (X p.p.) and Djibouti (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2023, the share of Morocco (X p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported caustic soda in MENA, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with an X% share of total imports. It was followed by Djibouti, with a X% share.

In Turkey, caustic soda imports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2023. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Israel (X% per year) and Djibouti (X% per year).
