The United Arab Emirates represented the main importer of asparagus in MENA, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. Qatar (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (X%), Morocco (X%) and Kuwait (X%). The following importers - Jordan (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - each accounted for a X% share of total imports.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Qatar (X%), Oman (X%), Morocco (X%), Turkey (X%) and Jordan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Kuwait experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Qatar (X p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (X p.p.) and Morocco (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kuwait saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Qatar ($X) and Kuwait ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, with a combined X% share of total imports.

Qatar, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2023, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
