The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 12%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, Mexico (X tons) was the largest exporter of non-soap surface-active washing and cleaning preparations, committing 39% of total exports. Guatemala (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (13%), Colombia (10%) and Brazil (7%). The following exporters - Peru (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) - together made up 6.8% of total exports.

Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of non-soap surface-active washing and cleaning preparations. While the share of Colombia (+5.2 p.p.), Argentina (+2.2 p.p.) and Guatemala (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of El Salvador (-1.5 p.p.) and Mexico (-7.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest non-soap surface-active washing and cleaning preparations supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Guatemala ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 9% share.

In Mexico, exports of non-soap surface-active washing and cleaning preparations expanded at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Guatemala (+3.3% per year) and Argentina (-0.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

After five years of growth, overseas purchases of non-soap surface-active washing and cleaning preparations decreased by -2.1% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +42.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild downturn. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
