Sawnwood Market Size in Japan

The revenue of the sawnwood market in Japan amounted to $X in 2017, coming up by X% against the previous year. In general, sawnwood consumption continues to indicate a slight contraction. Overall, the total exports indicated a remarkable expansion from 2007 to 2017: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2017 figures, the sawnwood exports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The exports peaked in 2017, and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

Sawnwood Exports by Country from Japan

China (X cubic meters), the Philippines (X cubic meters) and South Korea (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of sawnwood exports from Japan, together comprising X% of total exports. Taiwan, Chinese, Viet Nam and the U.S. lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the U.S. (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, largest markets for sawnwood exported from Japan were China ($X), the Philippines ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Taiwan, Chinese, Viet Nam and the U.S. lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

The U.S. (+X% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the last decade, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sawnwood Export Prices by Country in Japan

The average sawnwood export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2017, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price indicated a mild increase from 2007 to 2017: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2017 figures, the sawnwood export price decreased by -X% against 2011 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008, an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked of $X per cubic meter in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2017, it failed to regain its momentum.

There were significant differences in the average export prices for the major foreign markets. In 2017, the country with the highest export price was South Korea ($X per cubic meter), while average price for exports to China ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+X% per year), the export prices for other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sawnwood Imports into Japan

In 2017, imports of sawnwood into Japan stood at X cubic meters, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, sawnwood imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when it surged by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the sawnwood imports reached its maximum volume of X cubic meters in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, sawnwood imports stood at $X in 2017. In general, sawnwood imports continue to indicate a slight downturn. In that year, the sawnwood imports attained their peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2017, growth of the sawnwood imports failed to regain its momentum.

Sawnwood Imports by Country into Japan

Canada (X cubic meters), Finland (X cubic meters) and Russia (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of sawnwood imports to Japan, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Sweden, Austria, Chile, the U.S., Romania, Germany, Latvia and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further X%.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Czech Republic (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Canada ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sawnwood to Japan, making up X% of total sawnwood imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Russia ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Finland, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2017, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Canada totaled -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-X% per year) and Finland (-X% per year).

Sawnwood Import Prices by Country in Japan

In 2017, the average sawnwood import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, surging by X% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008, when it surged by X% y-o-y. The import price peaked of $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2017, it failed to regain its momentum.

Import prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest import price was the U.S. ($X per cubic meter), while prices for sawnwood imports from Chile ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable rate of growth in terms of import prices was attained by Romania (+X% per year), the import prices for other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
