In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for soap in bars exports from India, comprising 22% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nepal ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United Arab Emirates stood at +2.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nepal (+8.9% per year) and the United States (+2.4% per year).

In 2021, the average soap in bars export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -6.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of soap and organic surface-active products in bars imported into India surged to X tons, picking up by 25% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 159%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, soap in bars imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 203%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) was the main supplier of soap in bars to India, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, soap in bars imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Malaysia (X tons), with a 0.8% share.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of soap in bars to India, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 1.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 0.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia amounted to +58.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-8.5% per year) and Germany (+18.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soap in bars import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 44% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 82%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
