Footwear Market Size in Hungary

In 2019, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Hungarian footwear market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. In general, consumption, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. In value terms, footwear production stood at $X in 2019 estimated in export prices. In general, production, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 when the production volume increased by X% year-to-year. Footwear production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2019, after six years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of footwear, when their volume decreased by -X% to X pairs. In general, exports, however, recorded a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X pairs in 2018, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, footwear exports shrank to $X in 2019. Overall, total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2007 to 2019: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2019 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2018, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

Austria (X pairs), Romania (X pairs) and Spain (X pairs) were the main destinations of footwear exports from Hungary, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Slovakia, Poland, Bulgaria, Italy, the Netherlands, Croatia, Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Georgia, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for footwear exported from Hungary were Austria ($X), Romania ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Spain, Poland, Italy, Slovakia, Croatia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Spain saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average footwear export price stood at $X per pair in 2018, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per pair in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per pair), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X pairs in 2018, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, footwear imports rose to $X in 2019. In general, imports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2019 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Slovakia (X pairs), Poland (X pairs) and China (X pairs) were the main suppliers of footwear imports to Hungary, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Romania and Belgium, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price peaked at $X per pair in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per pair), while the price for China ($X per pair) was amongst the lowest.
