Melon Market Size in Haiti

Over the period under review, melon exports reached their maximum at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, melon exports totaled $X in 2018. Overall, melon exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Haiti exports peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2018, Spain (X tonnes) and Guatemala (X tonnes) were the largest exporters of melonsacross the globe, together recording approx. X% of total exports. Honduras (X tonnes) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Brazil (X tonnes), the U.S. (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes), Mexico (X tonnes) and Costa Rica (X tonnes). Over the period under review, the melon export price continues to indicate a temperate descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, the export prices for melons reached their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2015 to 2018, the growth in terms of the export prices for melons remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while Guatemala ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, melon imports reached their peak figure at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, melon imports stood at $X in 2018. In general, melon imports, however, continue to indicate an abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, melon imports attained their peak of $X. From 2015 to 2018, the growth of melon imports failed to regain its momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2018, the U.S. (X tonnes) was the main importer of melons, creating X% of total imports. The Netherlands (X tonnes) took the second position in the ranking, followed by France (X tonnes), the UK (X tonnes), Canada (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes). All these countries together occupied near X% share of total imports. Spain (X tonnes), Portugal (X tonnes), Mexico (X tonnes), Belgium (X tonnes) and Italy (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The U.S. experienced a relatively flat trend pattern of melons imports. At the same time, Mexico (+X%), France (+X%), Spain (+X%), the Netherlands (+X%) and Portugal (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mexico emerged as the fastest-growing importer in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018. Italy and Canada experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-X%), the UK (-X%) and Belgium (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of France (+X p.p.) and the Netherlands (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2007-2018, the share of the UK (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
