Milk Market Size in Germany

The revenue of the milk market in Germany amounted to $X in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, milk exports attained their peak figure at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, milk exports stood at $X in 2018. Overall, milk exports continue to indicate a moderate slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes) and Belgium (X tonnes) were the main destinations of milk exports from Germany, together accounting for X% of total exports. China, Austria, Denmark, France, Poland and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by China, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for milk exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. The average milk export price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, surging by X% against the previous year. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, export prices failed to regain their momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Milk Imports

Imports into Germany

In 2018, the amount of milk imported into Germany amounted to X tonnes, declining by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, milk imports increased by +X% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. In that year, milk imports reached their peak of X tonnes, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, the largest milk suppliers to Germany were Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for X% of total imports. These countries were followed by Denmark, Belgium, Austria and Luxembourg, which together accounted for a further X terms of the main suppliers, Denmark experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to imports, over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the average milk import price amounted to $X per tonne, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the milk import price, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of X% y-o-y. In that year, the average import prices for milk attained their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2014 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average import prices for milk remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while the price for Luxembourg ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
