From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of lemons and limes decreased by -11.2% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. Overall, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -16.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lemon and lime imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -17.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 40%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of lemon and lime to Germany, accounting for a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, lemon and lime imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), sixfold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain amounted to +4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+17.5% per year) and Italy (+0.6% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lemons and limes to Germany, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Spain stood at +6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+16.7% per year) and Italy (+3.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average lemon and lime import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 6.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 24%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
