Grape Market Size in Germany

The German grape market stood at $X in 2020, rising by X% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The average yield of grapes in Germany dropped to X tonnes per ha in 2020, with a decrease of -X% on the year before. Overall, the yield saw a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the yield increased by X% y-o-y. The grape yield peaked at X tonnes per ha in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

For the third consecutive year, Germany recorded decline in shipments abroad of grapes, which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, exports saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, grape exports dropped to $X in 2020. In general, exports saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. From 2009 to 2020, the growth exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Austria (X tonnes), the Czech Republic (X tonnes) and Poland (X tonnes) were the main destinations of grape exports from Germany, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Finland, Slovakia and Denmark, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Slovakia, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Austria ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the largest markets for grape exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Finland, Slovakia and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X the main countries of destination, Slovakia recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average grape export price amounted to $X per tonne, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the last thirteen-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs in 2020 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Grape imports into Germany stood at X tonnes in 2020, rising by X% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2012 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, grape imports rose notably to $X in 2020. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.
