Alumina Market Size in France

In value terms, alumina exports reduced notably to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Belgium (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main destinations of alumina exports from France, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Belgium, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest markets for alumina exported from France worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. The average alumina export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, purchases abroad of alumina increased by X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, alumina imports dropped notably to $X in 2020. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, Ireland (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of alumina to France, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, alumina imports from Ireland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tonnes), ninefold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Ireland stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+X% per year) and Greece (-X% per year).
