Malt Market Size in Finland

For the third year in a row, the Finnish malt market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2013 to 2020, the growth of the market failed to regain the momentum.

Malt Production in Finland

In value terms, malt production expanded to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the production volume increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Finland

In 2020, shipments abroad of malt increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, malt exports rose modestly to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. From 2009 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tonnes), Sweden (X tonnes) and Japan (X tonnes) were the main destinations of malt exports from Finland, together accounting for X% of total exports. South Korea, Norway, Germany and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Korea, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for malt exported from Finland were Russia ($X), Sweden ($X) and Japan ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Finland

In 2020, supplies from abroad of malt increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, malt imports totaled $X in 2020. In general, imports saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2020, the growth imports failed to regain the momentum.

Imports by Country

Sweden (X tonnes), Lithuania (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of malt imports to Finland, with a combined X% share of total imports. Poland, the UK, Estonia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Belgium (+X% per year), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest malt suppliers to Finland, together accounting for X% of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, Estonia, Poland and Belgium, which together accounted for a further X terms of the main suppliers, Belgium saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average malt import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2010 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per tonne), while the price for Lithuania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
