Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wind powered generator exports fell sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Spain prevails in exports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 53% of total exports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X units) took a 9.6% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (9%), Greece (6.8%) and Poland (4.5%). Denmark (X units), Germany (X units) and Slovakia (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wind powered generator exports from Spain stood at +9.0%. At the same time, Slovakia (+74.5%), Poland (+41.7%) and Belgium (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +74.5% from 2012-2021. Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, Germany ($X), Denmark ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 94% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Greece, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 1.1%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +64.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, waning by -5.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 929%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+89.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, the amount of wind powered generating sets imported in Europe reduced rapidly to X units, dropping by -82.5% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 418%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wind powered generator imports rose notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 47%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

At the same time, Spain (+18.7%), Belgium (+17.9%), France (+16.1%), Norway (+13.3%) and Greece (+11.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +18.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the UK (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Greece (+14 p.p.), France (+8.3 p.p.), Norway (+7.7 p.p.), Spain (+6.6 p.p.), Belgium (+4.5 p.p.) and the UK (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Croatia (-40.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the UK ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wind powered generating sets in Europe, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Norway ($X), with a 5.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Greece, with a 4% share.

In the UK, wind powered generator imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Norway (+13.9% per year) and Greece (+10.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 519% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 1,392%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
