Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, (non-coniferous) exports increased by +24.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Latvia (X cubic meters) and France (X cubic meters) represented roughly 38% of total exports in 2022. Estonia (X cubic meters) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Germany (X cubic meters), Spain (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters), Belgium (X cubic meters), Slovenia (X cubic meters) and Hungary (X cubic meters). All these countries together held approx. 40% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X cubic meters), Slovakia (X cubic meters), Finland (X cubic meters) and Lithuania (X cubic meters) - together made up 13% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Finland (with a CAGR of +93.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest industrial roundwood (non-coniferous) supplying countries in the European Union were France ($X), Latvia ($X) and Belgium ($X), together comprising 44% of total exports. Germany, Estonia, Slovenia, Poland, Spain, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

Finland, with a CAGR of +66.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per cubic meter), while Finland ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, (non-coniferous) imports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, industrial roundwood (non-coniferous) imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 25%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

The countries with the highest levels of industrial roundwood (non-coniferous) imports in 2022 were Sweden (X cubic meters), Finland (X cubic meters), Portugal (X cubic meters), Belgium (X cubic meters), the Netherlands (X cubic meters) and Italy (X cubic meters), together reaching 73% of total import. The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +7.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, growing by 39% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per cubic meter), while the Netherlands ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+11.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
