The average unmanufactured tobacco yield declined slightly to X kg per ha in 2022, almost unchanged from 2021. In general, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X kg per ha. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the unmanufactured tobacco yield remained at a lower figure. In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Senegal (X tons) represented the largest exporter of tobacco (unmanufactured), creating X% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Nigeria (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total exports. Sierra Leone (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the tobacco (unmanufactured) exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. Sierra Leone (X%), Nigeria (X%) and Cote d'Ivoire (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Senegal (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Nigeria (X p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco imports surged to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Nigeria was the major importer of tobacco (unmanufactured) in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), achieving a X% share of total imports. Senegal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
