Exports in ECOWAS

For the fifth year in a row, ECOWAS recorded growth in shipments abroad of ceramic household articles and toilet articles, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a remarkable increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, ceramic household article exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) was the major exporter of ceramic household articles and toilet articles, committing X% of total exports. Nigeria (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Senegal (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Ghana (X tons), Togo (X tons) and Sierra Leone (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Cote d'Ivoire was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ceramic household articles and toilet articles exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nigeria (X%), Togo (X%) and Sierra Leone (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Senegal (X%) and Ghana (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Cote d'Ivoire (X p.p.), Nigeria (X p.p.) and Togo (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Ghana (X p.p.) and Senegal (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X), Cote d'Ivoire ($X) and Sierra Leone ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sierra Leone (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of ceramic household articles and toilet articles increased by X% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic household article imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw measured growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

The purchases of the five major importers of ceramic household articles and toilet articles, namely Sierra Leone, Senegal, Nigeria, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire, represented more than two-thirds of total import. The following importers - Gambia (X tons) and Guinea (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.
