In 2021, the East European wind powered generator market decreased by -30.9% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, saw a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of wind powered generating sets increased by 44% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wind powered generator exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 215% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic was the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which finished at 53% of total exports. Poland (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Slovakia (X units) and Lithuania (X units). All these countries together took near 43% share of total exports.

Exports from the Czech Republic decreased at an average annual rate of -7.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+74.5%), Poland (+41.7%) and Lithuania (+24.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +74.5% from 2012-2021. Poland (+24 p.p.), Slovakia (+13 p.p.) and Lithuania (+4.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Czech Republic saw its share reduced by -34.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Lithuania ($X) emerged as the largest wind powered generator supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 2.3% share.

In Lithuania, wind powered generator exports increased at an average annual rate of +45.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (+24.5% per year) and the Czech Republic (+5.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 200%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+16.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2021, approx. X units of wind powered generating sets were imported in Eastern Europe; growing by 9.4% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 169% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wind powered generator imports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 169% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the key importer of wind powered generating sets in Eastern Europe, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was approx. 59% of total imports in 2021. Ukraine (X units) held a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Poland (10%) and Hungary (6.8%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wind powered generator imports into Russia stood at +36.1%. At the same time, Hungary (+49.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +49.0% from 2012-2021. In value terms, the largest wind powered generator importing markets in Eastern Europe were Poland ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Russia ($X), together comprising 91% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +35.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -26.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 181% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
