South Korea was the major exporter of powdered, evaporated and condensed milk in Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 43% of total exports in 2021. China (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 56% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Japan (with a CAGR of +41.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2021, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -76.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 162% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Eastern Asia

In 2021, approx. X tons of powdered, evaporated and condensed milk were imported in Eastern Asia; jumping by 25% on 2020 figures. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +82.1% against 2016 indices.
