Exports in Eastern Asia

In 2020, overseas shipments of dried grapes decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, showed measured growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dried grapes exports declined modestly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

China was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dried grapes exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2020. China (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) also remains the largest dried grapes supplier in Eastern Asia.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports decreased by -X% against 2017 indices. China (X tonnes) and Japan (X tonnes) prevails in dried grapes imports structure, together achieving X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes), achieving a X% share of total imports. South Korea (X tonnes) and Hong Kong SAR (X tonnes) took a little share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in China, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest dried grapes importing markets in Eastern Asia were Japan ($X), China ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.

China recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
