Exports from the Czech Republic
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of rice, when their volume increased by X% to X tonnes. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rice exports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Slovakia (X tonnes) was the main destination for rice exports from the Czech Republic, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, rice exports to Slovakia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tonnes), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Hungary (X tonnes), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Slovakia stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-X% per year) and Hungary (+X% per year).
In value terms, Slovakia ($X) remains the key foreign market for rice exports from the Czech Republic, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Slovakia totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and Austria (+X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average rice export price amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of rice decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tonnes, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, rice imports totaled $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Italy (X tonnes) constituted the largest rice supplier to the Czech Republic, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, rice imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tonnes), twofold. Vietnam (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy amounted to -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+X% per year) and Vietnam (+X% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per tonne), while the price for Belgium ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
