Singapore (X kg) was the main destination for tobacco exports from Cuba, with a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, tobacco exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X kg), threefold. Uruguay (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Singapore amounted to +36.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+14.7% per year) and Uruguay (+1,950.0% per year).

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for tobacco (smoking tobacco, chewing tobacco, snuff) exports from Cuba, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Australia, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Malaysia stood at +17.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+26.7% per year) and Australia (-39.1% per year).

In 2021, the average tobacco export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -29.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 105%. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 89%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tobacco imports reduced notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 139% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
