The United States (X tons) was the main destination for alumina exports from Croatia, with a 80% share of total exports. Moreover, alumina exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Turkey (X tons), sixfold. Slovenia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.1% share.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for alumina exports from Croatia, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovenia, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +381.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+57.9% per year) and Slovenia (+7.9% per year).

In 2022, purchases abroad of alumina increased by 31% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 134%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, alumina imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 161% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of alumina to Croatia, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, alumina imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Slovenia (X tons), threefold. Austria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled +47.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Slovenia (+32.0% per year) and Austria (+72.1% per year).

The average alumina import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -11.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 114% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
