Rice Exports

Exports from Comoros

Rice imports into Comoros amounted to X tonnes in 2018, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, rice imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, rice imports reached their peak of X tonnes. From 2015 to 2018, the growth of rice imports failed to regain its momentum.

In value terms, rice imports stood at $X in 2018. Overall, rice imports, however, continue to indicate remarkable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, rice imports reached their peak figure in 2018 and are likely to continue its growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Pakistan (X tonnes) was the main rice supplier to Comoros, with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by India (X tonnes), with a X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from Pakistan amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-X% per year) and Viet Nam (-X% per year).

In value terms, Pakistan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rice to Comoros, comprising X% of total rice imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by India ($X), with a X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Pakistan totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+X% per year) and Viet Nam (-X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the average rice import price amounted to $X per tonne, rising by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price indicated slight growth from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, rice import price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 an increase of X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2018, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was India ($X per tonne), while the price for Pakistan ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
