After four years of growth, the CIS virgin olive oil market decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, virgin olive oil exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Belarus dominates virgin olive oil exports structure, recording X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tonnes), mixing up a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Azerbaijan (X tonnes) and Armenia (X tonnes) - each amounted to a X% share of total exports.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the virgin olive oil exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2020. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Armenia (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Armenia and Russia saw its share reduced by -X% and -X% from 2007 to 2020, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In 2020, the virgin olive oil export price in the CIS amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per tonne), while Belarus ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, virgin olive oil imports declined slightly to $X in 2020. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+X%), Kazakhstan (+X%) and Belarus (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020.
