Exports in CIS

In 2022, overseas shipments of self-adhesive paper and paperboard decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, self-adhesive paper exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) dominates exports structure, together achieving X% of total exports. Armenia (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X%) and Uzbekistan (X%). Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of X.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest self-adhesive paper supplying countries in the CIS were Kazakhstan ($X), Russia ($X) and Armenia ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of X.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Armenia (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

After four years of growth, overseas purchases of self-adhesive paper and paperboard decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia dominates imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), achieving a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - each reached a X% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to self-adhesive paper imports into Russia stood at X%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (X%), Kazakhstan (X%) and Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. While the share of Uzbekistan (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported self-adhesive paper and paperboard in the CIS, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a X% share.

In Russia, self-adhesive paper imports expanded at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (X% per year) and Kazakhstan (X% per year).

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
