From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Russia dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), creating a X% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper bag exports from Russia stood at X%. At the same time, Moldova (X%) and Kazakhstan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Belarus (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (X p.p.) and Moldova (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Belarus (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In 2023, overseas purchases of sacks and bags of paper increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, paper bag imports skyrocketed to $X in 2023. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which resulted at X% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
