The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 200% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The biggest shipments were from Russia (X tons), together amounting to 98% of total export.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the frozen potatoes prepared or preserved exports, with a CAGR of +71.8% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of Russia (+80 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) also remains the largest preserved frozen potato supplier in the CIS.

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Russia.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, preserved frozen potato imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Russia represented the main importer of frozen potatoes prepared or preserved in the CIS, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 69% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Belarus (6.6%). Azerbaijan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+51.6%), Kazakhstan (+19.8%), Moldova (+14.3%), Azerbaijan (+12.6%) and Belarus (+11.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +51.6% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan increased by +9.8, +2.8 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen potatoes prepared or preserved in the CIS, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +2.6%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+17.3% per year) and Belarus (+10.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
