In 2022, fresh pork carcase exports in the CIS rose markedly to X tons, growing by 6.5% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 52%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fresh pork carcase exports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the key exporter of fresh or chilled carcases of pig meat in the CIS, making up 99% of total export.

In 2022, fresh pork carcase imports in the CIS surged to X tons, with an increase of 17% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 69%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fresh pork carcase imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Belarus represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 54% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 27% share, followed by Moldova (17%). Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into Belarus decreased at an average annual rate of -4.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+599.7%), Kazakhstan (+48.3%) and Moldova (+7.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +599.7% from 2012-2022. While the share of Kazakhstan (+26 p.p.), Moldova (+11 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Belarus (-3.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Moldova ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 97% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Kyrgyzstan, which accounted for a further 2.3%.

Among the main importing countries, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +551.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
