Russia (X tonnes) constituted the country with the largest volume of fish fat and oil production, comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, fish fat and oil production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Kazakhstan (X tonnes), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Uzbekistan (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Russia stood at +X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+X% per year) and Uzbekistan (+X% per year).

In 2020, overseas shipments of fish fats and oils decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2015, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, exports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2012 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fish fat and oil exports declined significantly to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at $X in 2019, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates fish fat and oil exports structure, recording X tonnes, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2020. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tonnes), constituting a X% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tonnes) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020. At the same time, Belarus (+X%) and Kazakhstan (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. While the share of Belarus (+X p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2007-2020, the share of Russia (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest fish fat and oil supplier in the CIS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Kazakhstan ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+X% per year) and Belarus (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The fish fat and oil export price in the CIS stood at $X per tonne in 2020, stabilizing at the previous year. Export price indicated slight growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, fish fat and oil export price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per tonne), while Belarus ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan, while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports of Fish Fats And Oils

Imports in CIS

In 2020, purchases abroad of fish fats and oils increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2020 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, fish fat and oil imports reduced to $X in 2020. In general, imports saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2020, Russia (X tonnes) was the major importer of fish fats and oils, committing X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Armenia (X tonnes), constituting a X% share of total imports. Belarus (X tonnes) took a little share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Armenia, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
