Exports in CIS

After four years of growth, overseas shipments of data storage devices decreased by X% to X units in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, data storage device exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Belarus (X units) and Armenia (X units) were the main exporters of data storage devices in the CIS, together finishing at near X% of total exports. Russia (X units) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (X%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Armenia (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Armenia ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising X% of total exports.

Armenia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, jumping by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, data storage device export price increased by X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of data storage devices decreased by X% to X units in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed notable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, data storage device imports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia dominates imports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Belarus (X%) and Kyrgyzstan (X%). Armenia (X units), Azerbaijan (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Azerbaijan (X%), Kyrgyzstan (X%) and Armenia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belarus (X%) and Uzbekistan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kyrgyzstan (X p.p.), Azerbaijan (X p.p.), Armenia (X p.p.) and Uzbekistan (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported data storage devices in the CIS, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a X% share.

In Russia, data storage device imports plunged by an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (X% per year) and Uzbekistan (X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
