After two years of decline, purchases abroad of base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets increased by 144% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports showed a resilient increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, base metal hook imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
