Exports in Central Asia

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of tea decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, tea exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkmenistan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkmenistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. Imports in Central Asia

After three years of decline, overseas purchases of tea increased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tea imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) represented roughly X% of total imports in 2022. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held an X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Tajikistan (X%). Mongolia (X tons) and Turkmenistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Mongolia (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
