The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, salt exports reached $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The United States (X tonnes) was the main destination for salt exports from Canada, with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands (X tonnes), with a X% share of total exports.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for salt exports from Canada, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the Netherlands ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country
The average salt export price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2019 to 2021, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, salt imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of salt to Canada, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, salt imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Belgium (X tonnes), with a X% share.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per tonne), while the price for Egypt ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
