Citrus Fruit Market Size in Bulgaria

In 2020, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Bulgarian citrus fruit market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. In general, consumption, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Exports from Bulgaria

In 2020, citrus fruit exports from Bulgaria expanded rapidly to X tonnes, growing by X% on the year before. In general, exports saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, citrus fruit exports fell notably to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

The Czech Republic (X tonnes), Romania (X tonnes) and Hungary (X tonnes) were the main destinations of citrus fruit exports from Bulgaria, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Belarus, Italy and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Italy, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Hungary ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Romania ($X) constituted the largest markets for citrus fruit exported from Bulgaria worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Belarus, Italy and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Italy recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average citrus fruit export price amounted to $X per tonne, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bulgaria

In 2020, the amount of citrus fruits imported into Bulgaria declined sharply to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, citrus fruit imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Greece (X tonnes), Turkey (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of citrus fruit imports to Bulgaria, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest citrus fruit suppliers to Bulgaria were Turkey ($X), Greece ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising X% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Germany saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average citrus fruit import price amounted to $X per tonne, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while the price for Greece ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
