Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, uncooked pasta exports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for uncooked pasta exports from Austria, with a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, uncooked pasta exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), fivefold. Hungary (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany stood at -16.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-2.6% per year) and Hungary (-8.3% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for uncooked pasta (containing eggs) exports from Austria, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to -16.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-4.9% per year) and Hungary (-5.7% per year).

The average uncooked pasta export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight reduction. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Liechtenstein ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Liechtenstein (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Austria
In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of uncooked pasta (containing eggs), when their volume decreased by -7.7% to X tons. In general, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +38.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, uncooked pasta imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 24%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of uncooked pasta to Austria, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, uncooked pasta imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), threefold. Switzerland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled +12.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-1.5% per year) and Switzerland (-9.5% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
