Wallpaper Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN wallpaper market expanded to $X in 2023, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. In 2023, shipments abroad of wallpaper and wall coverings decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wallpaper exports fell significantly to $X in 2023. Overall, exports saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2023, Malaysia (X tons) was the key exporter of wallpaper and wall coverings, constituting X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together mixing up a X% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of wallpaper and wall coverings. Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, declining by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2022, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2023, supplies from abroad of wallpaper and wall coverings decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wallpaper imports totaled $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Vietnam (X tons) was the largest importer of wallpaper and wall coverings, achieving X% of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (X%) and Malaysia (X%).
